Student Achievement Testing

The Student Achievement Testing program is intended to be both enjoyable and educational. It is designed to encourage students at every level to work for a clear understanding of all the important elements of music and to increase musical literacy and artistry.

There are ten levels which progress from elementary to advanced. At each level the student is required to perform three memorized pieces and, in addition, is tested in Theory, Technique, Sight-Reading, and Aural Awareness (ear training). This system helps to ensure achievement in all areas of musicianship.

The SAT, sponsored by the Michigan Music Teachers Association (MMTA), is held at several sites in Michigan in the spring. Local affiliated chapters, in this case the Battle Creek Area Music Teachers Association, administer the testing. Any school-age student of a teacher who is currently a member of MMTA is eligible to participate.

The next available testing will be held  March 10, 2012. It will be held at The Music Center of South Central Michigan located at 450 North Avenue Battle Creek, MI 49014 (for directions please visit www.musiccenterscmi.com)
